Tom Gunn has been a car aficionado since he took apart the family’s Ford coupe’s interior door panel with a screwdriver at the age of six. After serving in the Air Force, Tom earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering degree from Northeastern University, and later an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College. Tom has had a varied career in industry and in management consulting. During a management career that spanned over 30 years, Tom led manufacturing, operations, and supply chain consulting practices for Arthur D. Little, Arthur Young, and AT&T Solutions. He also held key management positions with Unisys and General Motors, and operated his own consulting firm (Gunn Associates, Inc.) where he was on retainer to EDS for five years. During this work, he assisted manufacturers in the Far East, Europe, and the US with manufacturing strategy and business performance improvements based on real-time information systems.
Tom is the author of four industry-published books on manufacturing business and supply chain performance, plus many articles in leading industry publications. Tom has been a featured speaker in scores of industry gatherings and corporate executive conferences. As a result of his former business of restoring vintage British motorcycle engines (mostly Triumphs), Tom also contributed several technical articles for Vintage Bike magazine.
While Tom’s passion in mechanical engineering was focused on internal combustion engine design, with the advent of inexpensive solar energy he now recognizes the superiority of electric motors for the propulsion of future transportation carriers. Sad, but true, and better for mankind. Onward with the new paradigm!
