Guiding Principles

These are the principles that will guide our research and communication to our followers.

1. We are fact-based believers in the convergence of accelerating technological change, the emergence of new business models, and the resulting economic changes and disruption in three traditional industries – transportation, oil and gas, and electric power generation and storage – as first described by Tony Seba in his landmark 2014 book Clean Disruption of Energy and Transportation. In general, we will measure industries’ and companies’ progress or lack thereof toward the vision Seba describes.
2. On the basis of our extensive research, we currently (and for the foreseeable future) recognize Tesla as the leader in the automotive and transportation space driving the changes Tony Seba envisions. As such we will measure all other companies’ efforts against Tesla’s results. Elon Musk has been uniquely successful in creating and growing Tesla (as well as SpaceX!) with his first principles engineering, innovative thinking, new industry business processes, and his relentless pursuit of continuous improvements in design and production that permeate Tesla’s culture.
3. We will continue to measure other industry participants’ efforts and results against the two frameworks above.
4. We will also examine the results of the disruptive changes in the above industries for their effects on our global environment and on society as a whole. These changes will be significant and pervasive.
